Hello. I am interested in getting VOIP with acanac. I am currently subscribing to Acanac's dsl service. I would like to keep my current phone service with Bell but would like a second line using VOIP. I am also thinking of buying my own Voip ATA. I would also like to return the modem/router provided by Acanac(I am using my own DSL modem at the moment). With the modem returned, can I get the cost of the modem deposit discounted towards the VOIP service or would it have to be done in two separate transactions?

I'm thinking of switching to Acanac for both Internet and telephone (From Bell & Rogers respectively). My only real concern is being able to port my current telephone number. I have received conflicting answers about the possibility and I would like to know, can it be done? If not, why not? I was just on the Vonage site to see if they could do it and I entered my number and they said it was possible so I don't see why other VOIP providers would be unable to do it.

Hi I have a few questions regarding your dsl service. #1 Can I get the service Brantford N3T5L5 519 752-2061 "Bell" phone and line. #2 What do you think a realistic speed will be because I live about 10km from town best worst at the present I have dial-up which is very slow. #3 How long do you realistically think It will take to get the service up and running. #4 If I have the service and move to another City can I have the service moved "Ontario" and how much notification time do you need before the new service can be up and running and the cost will help. If I think of something else I'll send you a email. Thanks, Nicholas

I'm interested in learning more about your Business Internet connection. Your site says 'static IPs available', but doesn't say how many. I would also like to know if this will work over an existing voice line, or if I need a separate incoming line. Does this include a router, or is this something I must purchase? I currently have my own server, and would like to host websites using my server. Can I have multiple domains pointing to my server? Do you setup the MX, HTTP and FTP records to point to my server, or do I? If you do - is there any additional cost for each domain? Thanks.

Hi. I'm considering switching to acanac but one feature I've grown fond of with my current voip provider may stop me from switching if acanac doesn't support it. Essentially I can make seemlessly unlimited outbound calls to my family, transfer them to my asterisk conference extension, then call another family member and transfer them to the conference extension along with those currently connected. This is something I do usually once or twice a year but is really a great feature. Will acanac provide this same feature with their basic residential softphone plan or do I have to secure additional outbound trunks?

Hi, I have your VOIP service, and our internet provider is Bell Sympatico. We've been very pleased with your service, except for the fact our ATA seems to disconnect whenever the internet is very busy, such as when downloading large files or watching large videos on the internet. We ofcourse understand that the connection quality would be low when downloading so much, but our phone doesn't even ring, the ATA has completely lost connection (we can't phone anyone either) until we reset it. This results in us missing many calls because we don't know when the ATA disconnects. We were wondering how to resolve this, and if there is something you can do on your end to fix it. To clarify: we don't mind switching downloads off when we get called, such is the life of a VOIP-user, but we do mind that the phone doesn't ring at all. In case you need this information, we have the Sipura ATA you provided. Thank you in advance for responding, Ashley de Jong - Doucette Steven de Jong

Hi, You or one of your colleagues gave me a list of * commands (*76, *77, etc.) to activate or deactivate the features provided with the service. Some of these commands simply don't work. The command *76, for example, does not activate "Do not disburb". The call transfer (command #) does not work either. Could you please check the list below that I was given by your service? And forward a list that does work or an Internet page where I would find the correct codes. Hello, I was wondering what I could do to get rid of the noise on the other phones in the house? I think that I am connected by a dry loop line. The phone at source of VOIP adaptor gets clear quality however something effects the extention phone lines. Accually the noise level is quite high so I wouldn't accually find them useable as they are. Is there a solution to this problem? Regards, Elva

Hi, My internet connection is normally fast untill yesterday afternoon. right now the speed is so slow... can someone investigate Bell/your end and see if their's anything out the ordinary? Note: I have read the following Tech note: Please see my comment on each line. My internet is very slow There could be 3 reasons why your internet is slow. 1. Your are very far from the central office thus the further you are the worse your connection will be. There is absolutly nothing we can do about this until bell puts in new lines in your area. Comment: As I mentioned, I had previously fast connection. 2. You have something on which is causing the bandwidth to be consumed. Check your computers to make sure no file sharing programs are active. Comment: None of these programs are active. 3. Check your connection to the wall to make sure you have a clean signal. Often there is too much line noise which causes your internet to be slow. If you are somewhat technical and understand the dmark location outside try and put the DSL line directly to the outside line that comes into the home Comment: My DSL/Router is located down the basement and the Bell line is connected directly to the DSL. Access to my Router and other PCs are at normal speed. I have rebooted the DSL and Router with No change. I browsed in to my router and diconnect/connect the connection and got a new internet IP addr and No change. I did a ping test(Internet IP addr)from my PC's command line, and I get a "time out" message. I pinged the Default Gateway, and I get a 30% packets lose. Your assistant is greatly appreciated. Bernard

Hi, I am interested in ADSL internet connection. But I am not sure if I need to keep a regular phone connection (e.g. Bell Phone) which provides a phone line connection, because I am thinking ADSL will make use of an existing phone line to transfer data with Internet. In other words, If I want to transfer from Bell Phone to an Internet-based phone company and I guess there will be no phone line connection (Bell gives you), Could your ADSL still work in this case? Thak you Feng

Currently, I have a Rogers Lite internet and a Vonage phone. If I stop my Rogers internet and get the internet service from you, will I be paying C$323.40 (inclusive of tax) for the internet and the naked DSL - (18.95+8)*12? If I get the phone service from you will I be paying C$9.95 per month (inclusive of tax)? If I switch to your phone service later, will my vonage modem work with your internet set-up? Right now I think that I will save a lot if I get my internet/phone service from you as I pay $32.95 and $19.95 to Rogers and Vonage, respectively (excluding tax). Thanks.

The company recomends the purchase of the Linksys SPA2102 Adapter but then does not give good support to configure the unit. I have seen the online help for the ATA 2100 and it does not address sound issues such as choppyness and missed words when I talk. I had the codec changed by Acanac but this made no difference so it was changed back. I just feel if Acanac had software to detect problems I then could correct my Linksys SPA2102 unit's choppyness and missed words. Thank you, Dave

I have ordered the Naked DSL service on Sept 3rd (My credit card was billed on Sept 5th), I have since not received any information as to what setting to use to configure my connection. When I called I was told that there is no space in the Central Office for my connection and that there is going to be a wait. I would like to receive an update regarding this order. I do also want a confirmation via email that my 1 year of paid service will begin on when I receive the confirmation that the connection is setup on your end. Hence, it will not end 1 year from the billing date, but 1 year from the date of service activation. Sincerely, Paul Marcjanek

And BTW, as a "Business" DSL user, it was clear that I would have a static DSL line. From day one, it has never been static - it changes frequently. Why so? Cheers, Bill

My question is regarding the routing of call forwarded calls. If it get a long distance to my VOIP line and it is forwarded to my cell. Is it like the call is going to my cell, or is like 2 different calls, one to my VOIP line and from my voip line to my cell. The reason I am asking is because I have family in NC I visit quite often. but my roaming charges on my cell are outrageous. What I was thinking of doing was getting a VOIP line with a local North Carolina area code (for example 919) and getting a local NC cell phone. So if I call forwarded the VOIP line to the local cell my family and friends could call the VOIP line and I would only have to pay local charges on the cell. Would this work

Hi, I am looking for an ISP for a friend who started a small business (two employees total including himself). Your DSL special offer seems realy interesting but I would have few questions before registering. - Is your service available in Boucherville Québec (south shore of Montreal). If needed here is the address and phone : 1300 B, Volta street Boucherville, Québec J4B 6G6 450-655-3097 - What speed can we expect in this location? - How long is this offer suppose to be available. Will it end soon so he would then have to pay much more in few months? - Is it possible to bill his company by mail instead of credit card? He can even send you a certified check to pay a full year if needed. - How long does it take to receive the DSL modem, install it and have the service activated? - Do you do web site hosting? If so, at what cost? A fast answer would be appreciated. Thank you! Regards, Yanick Proulx

I use Acanac's softphone service. It works fine when I use it from North America, but when I use it from Bangladesh, I have problems. Even though I'm using high speed internet when I'm there, the line is choppy sometimes; furthermore, even when the line is fine, the person I'm talking to as well as myself experience lags during our conversation some of which are 15 to 20 secs and even sometimes 30 secs in length. I requested the g729 codec from the Acanac support, but they say that they are unable to comply because it is not available with the service I'm using, but under FAQ section of the softphone service, it does state that the g729 codec can be used to compress any softphone line service. Can you please tell me how to troubleshoot this problem or provide me with a different domain that is more suitable around South-East Asia?

I am having great difficulty configuring my SPA 2102. I have managed to access the Linksys phone adapter page with the assistance of your FAQ's. However I am lacking some information I believe, namely the password under subscriber information (#2 in FAQ as referred to above). I have used the IP adress of 67.212.15.15 for the proxy and outbound proxy in #1. Is this correct? Once I have done this will I then have a dial tone on the phone or do I need to also configure it using the voice menu. FYI we are configuring a VOIP that we purchased independently of ACANAC. Any help you can provide would be appreciated. Cheers Bjorn

We purchased your internet and phone service for our son who is away at university. Although we have found the phone/internet service fairly good, the Tech Support definatley needs improvement! Not being able to speach to someone is difficult. We are currently having a problem with his phone line although his internet is working. When calling you get his voice mail immediately and he states that there is no dial tone. This has been to my knowledge for the past few days! This is forcing him to use his cell phone that is very expensive when calling long distance! What should we do? He has a dry loop on his line. Also, another problem is he lives in a building where his front door access for visitors occurs through his telephone. when people buzz him, his phone should ring but does not ring and it then throws out his internet. This problem has been on-going. Thanks for your hepl.

Hi! Well I have a question regarding VPN access to work. I am having trouble connecting to VPN from my laptop to work. Here is my setup. 1. Laptop OS Win XP Pro. 2. Destkop OS Win XP Home. 3. Modem Lynx L-210 (Connected Hardwire) Note: I don't have a wireless connection at home. Simple connection via ethernet cable to my desktop. I am using the same Ethernet cable for both Desktop and Laptop - All I do is when I need to use my Laptop I remove it from Desktop and attach it to my Laptop. Here is the problem; When I use my laptop to connect to work using VPN connectivity and hardwireing it with eithernet cable (same one from my desktop to my laptop) I can't get any access. But I am able to connect to the internet because my setup is set to automatic in the network TCP/IP configurations. I did try to use the wireless access that I am picking up from my neighbourhood and once I use that I am able to connect fine to VPN without any problems. I even called my work help desk and they pointed out that it has to be the modem because the system (laptop) I have is working fine becaue I was able to connect to VPN via wireless. Could someone help me out is to why I am having this problem. I am willing to return this modem for something better if thats that case. I even called the Acanac helpdesk and the lady was really nice to help me out in bridgeing my modem but still didn't work for me. So now the problem is narrowed down to the modem. Any other way I should do this before I start to rip my hairs out from my head. Thanks for your help in advance.

I had in mind that the calls were unlimited and that I could call 250 different numbers. Now when I want to call I have that message that says I called too many numbers and you will cut my service. Don't tell me I disconnected from bell for nothing and that I got lures by your compagny, is that why we have to pay for one year in advance? Tell me the rules for the calls, can I phone 600 times the same number or is it only so many calls a month I cane make?

Why does *123 not work from my phone to access voice mail? When I press *123 I hear a busy signal (well similar to one, beeps fast). So I am not even able to enter my voicemail password. What do I need to do to get *123 to work? Also, I tried to call the toll free number to access voicemail with my Acanac telephone number as my mailbox and the PIN that you've given me as my password, but I am unable to successfully log in. Are the prices you cite on your website a one time charge or a monthly charge? What is Voip ATA? Is it the router? If I am connected with a wireless internet connection through my neighbor's connection (we split the bill), would I have to connect the router to the cable in his apartment? If I'm visiting somewhere, can I still access the service online or can I only use it from home?

Is this amount charged on the credit card that was used in the registration or do we have to submit it again? Please call me at 647 282 2229. Thanks!

I'm just trying to serve this website here temporarily to test it, and show my colleagues before I move it to an actual web host. Thank you for your assistance.

1. Are you blocking peer-to-peer connections? I'm using DC++ to share files with my friends. From the time I switched from Rogers to Acanac I cannot establish any connection. What's more, I have Rogers service still available and as soon as I switch Ethernet cable to Rogers everything is OK. I'm also sure that all settings in DC (like TCP and UDP) are fine. 2. The Internet speed according to your advertisement should be 5Mbps download and 800kbps upload. I have checked my interned speed couple times per day and it never reached higher level than 2Mbps download and 600 kbps upload (upload is pretty OK). I understand that there could be some discrepancies, but this is only 50% of what you promised? Is this speed I should expect all the time? Impatiently awaiting your prompt reply Maria Tichoniuk

I'm a Mac user. I bought the Linksys spa2102. When I go to 192.168.1.1 to configure my ATA, I get my Linksys WRT54GL router configuration page (also have the Linksys router). So I changed my settings and went to 192.168.210.1 (a suggestion from a tech friend), but then my WRT54GL doesn't work and I lose my internet connection. Grrrrrrr. I can use my softphone on my laptop, but that's the solution. I have not been able to use my Linksys spa2102 since purchasing it in December. No one is providing support. Linksys, Acanac, and the seller each tell me that the other party is responsible for support. Help!

lets start by saying we cancelled our acanac because they are saying we have to pay an extra 8 dollars for a dryloop for voip router /etc. We have no idea on what the dryloop is and how it works and decided to research the internet about dry loop(we have bell express) my question is... 1) If we get the acanac dsl unlimited with dry loop (extra $8)what do i have to do to transfer my phone line to the voip in acanac? 2) This phoneline is free and included in the service right? Im not going to return the modem yet. if this is the case we will probably sign up for acanac by the end of our term with bell canada(both the internet and the phone) the end of february. I assume someone has to come and do the dryloop and give the voip router to us. please respond to this regards enrico

DSL Questions:
I am considering signing up with your DSL service. I live in Montreal and I have a few questions first: 1. In your "unlimited bandwidth" offering, are there any bandwidth limitations for upload AND/OR download: - bandwidth capping (for p2p protocols)? - traffic shaping (for ftp)? 2. Am I allowed to run a server from home on a residential unlimited contract? 3. If I sign up for 1 year unlimited bandwidth contract and decide to cancel within that time, what are cancellation fees? Or will I have to pay the entire 1 year contract fee at once and what if I decide to cancel later on? 4. You advise not to cancel service with my current ISP before I sign up with you - my ISP normally expects an advanced warning of cancellation, how should I go about it? 5. When you say a free modem is provided, does it mean I get to keep it even if I decide to cancel within 30 days with full refund (satisfaction garantee)? 6. I live in Montreal - where is the physical location of your office I will be dealing with? Are you a US-based company? Thank you for answering my questions.

I am on dial up - I don't want to get the DSL if it's going to be just as slow - how do you determine if it will be faster and worth it? thanks

Right now my homephone provider is CIK.That is base on the internet. I'd like to know that ACANAC Internet has limited of 50 different phone numbers per month for the CIK homephone? "Residential vs Business. Any client found to be a residential client and communicating with more then 50 different phone numbers per month is considered a business client. This does not mean that you cannot place/receive more then 50 calls, it simply means that you can not communicate with more then 50 completely different numbers unless you are a business client. Any client found to be considered business and communicating with more then 250 completely different numbers is also prohibited."
